What is the ARD program?

If you've been charged with DUI-related crimes in Pennsylvania, you may have heard that there are programs available to help clear your record. Marros Law Office is here to guide you as you learn more about your options, including the ARD program.

Officially known as the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program and called ARD for short, this program is probationary, and only for residents of Pennsylvania. What does it do? In essence, if you're able to complete this program successfully, your record is wiped clean. Not only that, but your initial charges will also be dismissed.

Having a clean record is a great boon. When a DUI-related charge is put on your criminal record, it can impact your ability to get housing, jobs, or even attend college. In order to be accepted into the program, you must first get a reference from the district attorney. The courts must then authorize that.

Certain things may keep you from being eligible for this program. For example, if someone younger than 14 was in the car, or if you were involved in an accident that ended up taking another motorist's life or resulting in severe injury. It's also important to note that you'll still face a period of license suspension, other treatments or programs as dictated by the judge, and administrative and court costs.

If you would like to read more about the ARD program, you can take a look at our web page on DUI and DWI violations, linked here. You'll be able to find more information related to the program itself, as well as other information tied to your DUI-related charge, which may help you fight it more efficiently.
